PRO SMILE orthodontic overlays are a modern method of treating mild to moderate malocclusion.
Orthodontic overlays require wearing for most of the day, which is exactly 22 hours, with exceptions for meals and oral hygiene. Careful adherence to this regimen is key to achieving the expected therapeutic results. Failure to follow the recommendations can not only delay the treatment process, but also require the use of additional tooth caps, generating additional costs for the patient.
If an orthodontic cap is lost or damaged, it is necessary to contact the treating dentist immediately. Standard practice is then to temporarily use the most recently used orthodontic cap until a new one is obtained. It is advisable to keep the old orthodontic trays as a reserve for the duration of treatment, so that they can be used in case of such emergencies. The length of treatment is determined on the basis of the patient’s individual health assessment and can be adjusted depending on progress.
In some situations, it may be advisable to extend the length of treatment to ensure the highest quality results. Regular professional dental cleanings, recommended every six months during orthodontic treatment, are designed to maintain optimal oral hygiene and prevent gum problems.
To achieve a perfectly straight tooth line, it is sometimes necessary to perform a procedure called stripping, especially when the space between teeth is insufficient. However, it is not a standard part of every treatment plan – its use depends on the individual needs of the patient.
Stripping involves gently reducing the width of the teeth on the side of the teeth by careful polishing, a process that is painless, quick and used routinely.
Scientific evidence supports the safety of this procedure, although in some cases it can lead to slightly more sensitive teeth or alter their shape.
Proper tooth placement promotes better oral hygiene and provides protection against diseases such as tooth decay and gingivitis, contributing to overall oral health.
When orthodontic trays are used, there is a chance that they may not be perfectly aligned with the surface of the teeth from the beginning. It is possible to experience initial difficulty speaking, which usually subsides within the first few days. The first 24-48 hours may also bring a feeling of slight pressure, discomfort or increased sensitivity of the teeth, which is a typical symptom at the beginning of treatment. If the pain intensifies and does not diminish after a few days, prompt consultation with a doctor is necessary.
It is also possible that overlays will cause mechanical stress on fixed prosthetic components, such as bridges, crowns or implants, which may result in their displacement or even loss.
To maintain the results achieved after therapy, retention measures are essential. Wearing a permanent retention appliance is recommended at all times, which is key to permanently maintaining the results of treatment.
For retention purposes, a special retention tray or wire is used, which is permanently installed. In a situation where the retention appliance is lost or damaged, there is a risk that the teeth will return to their original, undesirable position.
The warranty period for retention appliances is 3 months. Which retention device will be used is determined by the doctor in charge of the treatment.
Treatment with orthodontic trays offers many advantages including:
Patient Scanning
-3D scan (jaw, mandible, compact)
-photographs of the patient’s smile (en face, right, left profile, with and without smiling)
-intraoral photos (en face, right and left profile, compact)
